More changes open up content

December 23rd, 2005

We’ve been listening to user feedback and making significant changes in the site. Thanks again for eveyone who’s using the site and writing in with suggestions!

Though we didn’t realize it at first, the original launch of acatopia.org was rather closed-minded.

What do I mean?
Well, users could post book questions easily enough. But if users wanted to search for book questions to answer, their only recourse was to use the search box to first find a book. The chances of finding a book with a question was (and still is– but not for long, hopefully :) ) pretty small.

So we’ve opened up the site.
Now users can view every question that has been asked just by clicking on View All Recent Book Questions. We’ve also added a list of the most recent book questions right on the homepage.

But that’s not all…
We’ll be opening up the site even more in the coming weeks. Look for the following enchancements early next year:

  • RSS feeds!
  • Search for books by college course
  • Post your name with your question/answer so other users can identify you (this will be completely optional, of course)
  • Post general questions about a book, or questions specific to a book page (right now you can only post questions specific to a page, but our crafty users have found a way around this by posting to “page: cover” or “page: 1″– good for them!)

As always, please let us know what you’re thinking! Please post your comments below, or email us!

Thanks very much!

acatopia.org launch

December 1st, 2005

Welcome to the acatopia.org blog!

At the request of our visitors, we’ve decided to start this blog to:

  • Give you an opportunity to publically post your feedback about acatopia.org (you can always send us private feedback by email).
  • Create a log of the changes we’ve made, and the changes we’re planning on making.

What is acatopia.org?

The goal of acatopia.org is to help you learn.

  • Just search for a book you are reading, or a book you have read. You will then be able to ask any question you have, and help answer other readers’ questions.
  • You can post more than one answer to each question. You can even post answers to your own questions, if you think others will find them useful!
  • You can use HTML and LaTeX for math in your postings.

We’ve been receiving great feedback from our visitors, and many changes to the site are on their way…

In the meantime, please post your comments below, or email us!

Thanks very much!
